Job Vacancy | Quantity Surveyor

Due to retirement, Meldrum Joinery & Building have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our award-winning team. Meldrum Joinery & Building, a family business, are one of Perthshire’s premier joinery & building contractors, and we hold several contracts with both the local council and national housing authorities.

Responsibilities 

  • Pricing contracts both bill of quantities and off drawings
  • Valuation of project works and producing final accounts
  • Producing and updating work programmes
  • Liaising with site managers, clients, contractors, and subcontractors throughout projects to ensure best commercial results are achieved, whilst maintaining relationships
  • Advising construction managers on contractual law and obligations
  • Tracking cost plans and programme delivery
  • Identifying and documenting changes in design and updating budgets
  • Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Visiting sites as and when required
  • Analyse subcontractor quotes, place orders and evaluate throughout projects
  • Ensure site teams deliver the commercial strategy correctly
  • Health & Safety awareness, producing Risk Assessments and contract documentation

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum HND in Quantity Surveying or similar
  • ACRICS qualified, preferred
  • Several years experience of being a QS
  • Demonstrate experience and capabilities of managing all pre and post contract activities
  • Commercially aware with excellent attention to detail to ensure all valuations or final accounts are recorded correctly and accurately
  • Highly motivated and can work autonomously, whilst equally being a great team player
  • Ability to thrive in a busy environment, delivering under pressure and working to tight deadlines
  • Excellent negotiating and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organise, plan and strategise
  • Experience of Microsoft software, specifically Excel
  • A full, valid driver’s license
