Meldrum Joinery & Building was honoured to receive our prestigious Silver Armed Forces Covenant at a glamorous awards ceremony held at Scone Palace.
Although we were awarded our Silver status back in 2020, unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the ceremony had to be postponed until it was safe to do so.
The wait however was certainly worth it.
Derek Petterson, CEO & Mike Guild, Director of Surveying & Estimating, attended the ceremony on behalf of the company.
They were welcomed to Scone Palace on October 7th by HRFCA Chief Executive Brigadier (Retd) Mark Dodson and enjoyed an impressive performance by the Regimental Band of The Black Watch Army Cadet Force and their colleagues from the Pipes and Drums Black Watch ACF.
The prestigious Silver Armed Forces Covenant is awarded by the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme to businesses that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community.
We join an exclusive list, as only around 900 businesses in the UK have the Silver accolade. It’s a great achievement to share the same accolade with some of the UK’s largest companies, such as Asda and British Airways to name a few.
Major General Bill Wright, General Officer Scotland, the Army’s senior representative in Scotland, presented the Silver awards on behalf of the Ministry of Defence.
He said: “We are here this evening, and at last able to do it in person, to give recognition to employers as part of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.”
“We hope that now that you too have reached the Silver standard you will go on to become advocates to other businesses and organisations on behalf of the Defence family and thereby qualify to be considered for the Gold level award.
“On behalf of Defence, I thank you for your commitment and for all that you are doing.”
Mike Guild collected the award on behalf of Meldrum and commented, “Meldrum Construction are very pleased to have won the Silver Award and to be supporting the men and women who put their lives on the line for our country. We are very proud of that.”
